These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the website (https://thegeorgepub.com) and the services offered by Lee Taggart trading as The George Pub, Hitchin ("we", "us", "our"). By using our website, registering an account, or requesting a booking, you agree to these Terms.

1. Website Use and Account Registration

When you register an account on our website, you agree to provide accurate and complete information. You are entirely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and restricting access to your device. We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate our terms or engage in misuse of our platform.

2. Independent Food Vendor (Mi Barrio Hitchin)

Please note that the kitchen facilities at The George Pub are leased to and independently operated by Mi Barrio Hitchin. Accordingly:

  • Any contract for the purchase or consumption of food is made directly between you and Mi Barrio Hitchin.
  • Mi Barrio Hitchin is solely responsible for food preparation, food quality, hygiene standards, pricing, and dietary/allergen management.
  • Lee Taggart trading as The George Pub excludes all liability for any food-related issues, health issues, or disputes arising from food services provided by Mi Barrio Hitchin.

3. Function Room and Venue Hire Bookings

If you request to book our function room for business meetings, networking events, or private parties, the following binding terms apply:

  • Booking Request Deposit: A deposit of £200 is required at the time of your booking request. This deposit is held securely by us to secure your chosen date.
  • Deposit Refund Eligibility (Bar Spend): The £200 booking deposit is fully refundable if £700 or more is spent at the bar during your scheduled function. If total bar spend during the event is less than £700, the £200 deposit will be retained by the venue as a room hire fee.
  • Cancellations and Rescheduling:
    • The £200 deposit is fully refundable if you cancel your booking with at least 28 days' notice prior to your event date. If you cancel with less than 28 days' notice, the deposit is strictly non-refundable.
    • You can cancel or reschedule your booking self-service via the cancellation/rescheduling buttons and links sent to you within your automated email or SMS confirmation.
    • Any attempts to cancel or reschedule must be processed at least 28 days prior to the event to protect your deposit refund.
  • Conduct and Damages: The hirer is responsible for the conduct of all attendees. You agree to pay for any damage caused to our premises, fixtures, or fittings by you, your guests, or any external suppliers you bring into the venue.
  • External Catering: All food on the premises must be coordinated through our independent kitchen partner, Mi Barrio Hitchin, unless prior written permission is granted by the venue management.

4. Limitation of Liability

As a sole trader business, our liability for any loss or damage you suffer as a result of using our website or booking our function room is strictly limited to the amount paid by you for the specific booking, or £100 (whichever is higher). Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

5. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Are you open on bank holidays?

We extend our hours over bank holidays unless specified otherwise.

Have you got a function room I can book for my private party/event?

Yes! Our 16th Century hayloft serves as a function room and is available for private hire Tuesday - Sunday 12pm - 12am. It's free with a minimum bar spend! Go to https://thegeorgepub.com/function-room-hitchin for more information and to book.

Do you have step-free access?

Unfortunately, as we are a grade 2* listed building, we are prohibited from altering the structure to create a disabled access.

Are kids allowed in?

Kids are welcome during the day, but as per our license under 18's must vacate the premises by 8pm.

Are dogs allowed in?

We are a dog-friendly pub. We love our four-legged friends! But don't take our word for it... If you have a look at our Google Reviews, you'll see that dogs are very welcome downstairs at The George. However, please note that for the comfort of patrons & pooches alike, dogs are not allowed on Friday and Saturday nights after 9 PM or on bank holidays. This is because it gets too crowded for the dogs to enjoy their visit.
